An unpleasant incident befell kidney specialist Dr. Syahpri Putra Wangsa, Sp.PD-KGH, FiNASIM, at Sekayu Regional Hospital (RSUD Sekayu), Musi Banyuasin, South Sumatra. The doctor reported being forced by a patient’s family member to remove his mask while on duty, leaving him feeling intimidated. He has since filed a report with the Musi Banyuasin Police (Polres Muba).

The case has drawn attention from the South Sumatra Provincial Legislative Council (DPRD Sumsel). Chairman of Commission V, Alwis Gani, said that the council will soon summon all related parties.

“After the recess, we will call them,” Alwis stated at the South Sumatra DPRD office on Friday (August 15, 2025).

The Gerindra politician emphasized that violence and intimidation against medical workers cannot be tolerated.

Vice Chairman of Commission V, David Hadrianto Aljufri, added that the commission will discuss the exact schedule for the hearing.

“We are still deliberating on the timing,” said the Golkar politician.

Previously, it was reported that Dr. Syahpri was subjected to verbal abuse and forced to remove his mask while conducting a routine patient visit at the hospital’s VIP ward on Tuesday (August 12, 2025).

A video uploaded by the Instagram account @perawat_peduli_palembang captured the moment when the doctor remained calm despite the patient’s family aggressively pressuring him.

In the recording, Dr. Syahpri explained the patient’s critical condition:

“The patient was admitted unconscious, with extremely low blood sugar and uncontrolled blood pressure. We carried out examinations, including an X-ray, which showed a collapsed lung on the right side,” he said.

The incident has sparked wider concern over the safety and protection of healthcare workers in Indonesia, particularly amid growing calls for better safeguards against intimidation and violence in hospitals.
