Jakarta – A photo of Deputy Manpower Minister Immanuel Ebenezer lying in a hospital bed has gone viral on social media, sparking speculation about his health condition. The image quickly spread across several platforms, with netizens questioning whether the minister was seriously ill.
In response, officials from the Ministry of Manpower clarified that Immanuel Ebenezer had indeed been admitted to the hospital, but only for medical observation and recovery, not due to a critical illness as widely rumored.
“Mr. Immanuel is currently in stable condition. He was advised by doctors to take a short rest following a routine health check,” said a spokesperson from the Ministry in Jakarta on Friday (August 22, 2025).
The spokesperson stressed that the viral photo had been taken out of context, leading to unnecessary speculation. “We ask the public not to be misled by unverified images circulating online. The Deputy Minister is expected to return to work soon after completing his recovery,” the statement added.
Previously, the photo showing Immanuel wearing a patient gown and lying on a hospital bed circulated widely on Instagram and WhatsApp groups. Some captions even claimed that he had collapsed during an official event, though this information was later confirmed to be false.
The Ministry also urged the public to be cautious about spreading misinformation. “Health is a private matter, but because Mr. Immanuel serves in a public role, we feel it is important to clarify. We appreciate the concern shown by the public and assure everyone that his condition is not life-threatening,” the spokesperson said.
Political observers noted that viral rumors about government officials often spread quickly due to the lack of verified information. Analysts urged ministries and institutions to respond promptly to prevent speculation from escalating.
Immanuel Ebenezer, who has served as Deputy Minister of Manpower since 2024, is known for his outspoken stance on labor reforms and transparency within the ministry.
